Vernon Greene

Vernon Greene was a cartoonist known for illustrating various comic strips and comic books.
Greene was born Vernon Van Atta Green on September 12, 1908 in Battle Ground, Clark County, Washington. He later added an "e" to the end of his last name to make it more distinctive. He started his career as a cartoonist doing sports cartoons for the Portland Telegram in Portland, Oregon. He later illustrated The Shadow, The Masked Lady, Perry Mason, Polly and Her Pals. After the death of George McManus in 1954, Greene took over Bringing up Father.
He was married to Barbara M. Bennett in 1948 and had five children. He lived in New Jersey from 1952 until his death from cancer on June 5, 1965.
