Velikoe v malom i antikhrist
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Velikoe v malom i antikhrist, or briefly, Velikoe v malom, is the transliterated title from the Russian language, of Великое въ маломъ и Антихристъ, into the English language of the 1905 work, by Serge Nilus (1862-1929), which translates as The Great within the Miniscule and Antichrist. This imprint purports to be the second edition of an earlier 1903 edition. It is primarily remembered for its antisemitic and plagiarized Part XII, or Chapter XII, which has subsequently been frequently re-published in pamphlet, or book form, and is also now available in the Web. It is almost alway highly annotated, with an preface, an introduction, and a postcript, appendix, etc. Nilus's semi-autobiographical book, on the coming of the Antichrist, and on himself, is practically forgotten. The The text of this chapter 12, when reissued and/or retranslated, most often highly annotated with a preface, introduction, postscript, and/or appedix is popularly known as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, but each imprint often has a new title, in keeping which its substantial editing. The Library of Congress has assigned to this latter text the title of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
The actual 1905 Russian language version of the Protocols of Zion are pages 305 through 417 of this book. The title of this chapter 12, in the Russian language, is протоколы засѣданій сіонскихъ мудрецовъ, which is not easily translated into the English language with all its Russian innuendoes. Word-for-word it may be rendered as the Protocols of the Meeting of the Sages of Zion. The translation varies with different imprints of these "Protocils." The most post popular English language rendition is the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. However, the title of this chapter 12, in the Table of Contents (un-numbered page 419) is Antichrist as an Imminent Political Possibility.
It is an exceedingly rare imprint, and much is made of the fact that the British Museum, now the British Library, had acquired (and currently holds) a copy stamped as received in 1906. It is alleged, in the antisemitic British imprint issued by the Britons Publishing Society, in its 1922 English language translation, that Victor E. Marsden (who died on October 28, 1920) had translated from it for them while sitting in the British Museum.
