Vega (singer)

Mercedes Mígel Carpio (Córdoba, February 18, 1979), alias Vega, is a Spanish singer-songwriter.

Her interest about music was born in her childhood. She went studying Advertising and Public Relations to Segovia, where she worked as a waitress. She left her university career to be a contestant in Operación Triunfo 2003, what was her springboard to fame. Her musical style can be defined as the classical Spanish canción de autor, but it shows influences of Frank Sinatra, K's Choice or Sting.

Her first album in 2003, India, was well received across Spain, and the first single, Grita, got to number 1 in the singles charts and ended up selling 700,000, which was the third best selling single of an Operación Triunfo contestant from her series (first being Beth's Dime, and second being Lunae's Hipnotizadas, of whom a member, Elena Gadel lives with Vega). Indeed, Elena Gadel featured on the second single off the album, La Verdad, but unlike Grita, it only got to number 24 in the single's chart.

In 2006, she released her second album : Circular, with the first single being 'Una Vida Contigo'. The album stalled at #40 in the Spanish charts, although the single received huge radio play.
