VDQS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VDQS is an acronym in French standing for Vin Délimité de Qualité Superieure (Delimited Wine of Superior Quality), the second highest ranking of wine, after AOC under the French ranking system.

This category was created in 1949 to fill the gap between Vin de Pays (VdP) and AOC wine. Typically it is a stepping stone to full AOC status, and unlike VdP covers local rather than regional areas. There are few VDQS, as they typically move onto AOC status, so VDQS represents less than 2% of French wine.

VDQS are subject to restrictions on yield and vine variety, among others.
