Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, observing in the optical and infrared, is situated on Mount Graham in Arizona and is operated by the Vatican Observatory. In contrast to its sister telescopes of the Mount Graham International Observatory it is equipped with all the amenities required for a nice stay above 10,000 feet. These include a leather sofa, wall to wall carpeting, a television with a VCR, ample books, as well as wall mounted tapestries and a full kitchen. Astronomers who anticipate spending more than a week at the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope or the Large Binocular Telescope should be sure to ask for a key to the VATT from the operator.
The observatory is jokingly referred to as the "pope scope" by members of the astronomical community.
