Vancouver Playhouse

The Vancouver Playhouse is the regional theatre for the province of British Columbia. It was founded in 1963. The company makes its home at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre complex in Vancouver. The first production was Brendan Behan's The Hostage which was directed by British director Malcolm Black. Black served as Artistic Director of The Playhouse from 1964-67. The Playhouse has had many prominent Canadian directors serve as Artistic Director over the ensuing years including Christopher Newton, Joy Coghill and Walter Learning. The current Artistic Director is Glynis Leyshon.
