Van Buren High School (New York City)

Martin Van Buren High School is a public high school in Queens Village, New York City. Named for 8th U.S. President Martin Van Buren, the school opened in 1955. The school is operated by the New York City Department of Education.
- Notable Van Buren alumni include: actresses Ilene Graff of Mr. Belvedere and the late Madeline Kahn of Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein; rockers Al Kooper (Blood, Sweat & Tears, etc.), Harvey Goldstein a.k.a. Harvey Brooks (Electric Flag, etc.), Jon "Bowzer" Bauman (Sha Na Na), and the late Arthur "Killer" Kane (New York Dolls); the late political activist Mario Savio, who led the Berkeley Free Speech Movement in the 60's; advertising executive Donny Deutsch; and the 2004 winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics Frank Wilczek.
