The one person I asked (when vanilla coke just came out in NZ) didn't agree with me that vanilla coke tasted like creaming soda.

But I think it tastes nearly exactly like creaming soda.

I looked on the net and found this argument: http://battleforums.com/history/show/352.html

Is it worth mentioning that v.coke tastes like creaming soda? It's something i'd like to know if I hadn't tasted it, and looked it up in an encyclopedia. Tristanb 11:50, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)

But saying it tatstes like Cream soda would be POV, wouldnt it? Antonio Girl-Boy sex toy Martin

Yeah, but any taste is POV always really. It's not my opinion, it's my perception. What do other people think it tastes like? Anyway.. how about:
Some people have compared the taste of Vanilla Coke to cream soda.
Is there a way of describing a complex taste without being POV? --Tristanb 07:21, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Isn't the fact it tastes like cream soda a bit obvious as cream soda tastes like vanilla. It tastes like anything vanilla, not cream soda specifically. Angela 07:24, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)

lots of things taste like vanilla, but they don't taste like vanilla coke. When I bought my first vanilla coke i expected it to taste like vanilla-flavoured coke, not just vanilla-flavoured carbonated water. It was a surprise that it tasted like it did. Tristanb 10:17, 14 Sep 2003 (UTC)

This is probably not worth putting in the main article, but Snackspot quotes someone as saying "It tastes as if you were drinking some normal coke on Hallowe'en, and some kid who'd eaten too many sweeties walked past and, without warning, threw up in your mouth." I think they have a good quote about Lemon Coke, too. I'll try to dig that up. -- Darac Marjal 14:23, 12 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Which one of these tastes sweeter? The thing is confusing. -Litefantastic 12:22, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Taste is definitely POV...I mean, I think that Pepsi and Coke taste almost exactly alike (as well as Vanilla Coke and Vanilla Pepsi). bob rulz 02:18, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)

When I first tasted it, I thought it tasted like creaming soda. But I agree, it is POV. RealWingus 04:06, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

How about this? Go out to your local street corner and hold a blind fold tasting session! Be sure to bring your camera crew, a microphone, and a high powered celebrity. Jaberwocky6669 | Holla! 16:55, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

NO! Only two more months to live! Come back Vanilla Coke! Come back!! bob rulz 04:52, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] V branding?

Removed paragraph pending verification:

For a brief period of time in summer 2003, the bottles Vanilla Coke came in, which had before said Vanilla Coke, were changed simply to V. Afterwards, the original labling was resumed.

Can anyone substantiate this paragraph as a brand-wide relabeling? I don't remember this happening and it doesn't sound at all like The Coca-Cola Company. A much more reasonable explanation is that it was labeling test marketed in one city or limited region. If so, then not really a notable occurance. Autiger 04:16, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)

This happened in my market, which is far from urban and bustling, so I find it notable and deserves a mention. Mike H (Talking is hot) 04:03, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
I noticed it, as well, in a number of markets around the country (due to my traveling for work). I noticed it specifically because the name of my company is VEE Entertainment, and we thought the bottles could double as our logo. :) kmccoy (talk) 04:35, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm the one who added that, and all I have to say is 'huh'? I still don't know why they did it. -Litefantastic 23:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV Revert

"For some stupid reason, the Vanilla Coke sold in Great Britain isn't as sweet and isn't as nice as the USA made coke." Psy Guy 17:06, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] No Diet Vanilla Coke in 2-liters

I know that they still sell them. As in, I JUST bought a two-liter of the shit this Saturday. Please stop putting this back into the article. If you can't find them, it is an issue with your local retailer. Mike H (Talking is hot) 07:51, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] History of "Vanilla Coke"

Vanilla coke has been served for a long time in diners and by soda jerks. The article mentions this in passing, but perhaps it warrants it's own section. Especially since "Vanilla Coke" doesn't always refer to the branded and marketed version. For example, in the movie Pulp Fiction Vincint Vega (John Travolta) orders a "vanilla Coke" at Jack Rabbit Slim's Resteraunt. And particularly people who were alive in the 50's remember vanilla coke being a menu item. Also my mom, who grew up in the Bronx and Manhatten, tells me that vanilla Coke was very regional to New York City in that decade, and still is available widely in that area. Maybe we could create a section called "Coca Cola with Vanilla Syrup", or "Origin" or something and put that info there. Then we could put everything pertaining to "Vanilla Coke" the brand in a section titled "Branded Version", noting that "in 2002 Coca Cola rolled out an official, vanilla-flavored version of its original soft drink product..." and then go on with the rest of what's on there 69.169.130.131 04:47, 6 November 2005 (UTC)Leo

[edit] Dating method

The description of Vanilla Coke's history makes extensive use of "Summer of..." and "Autumn of...". Please remember that the world has two hemispheres with opposing seasons. Can someone change this to show proper relative dates? --Scottie theNerd 14:54, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Quaque; that makes more sense now. --Scottie theNerd 16:13, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ingredients: 10g of sodium per 100ml?

This can't be true? April fools or smth? They don't sell it around here so I don't really know.

I fixed it, there is 0g of sodium: http://citizenship.coca-cola.co.uk/active_lifestyle/nutrition.asp?brand=cocacola

That was a typo. There are 10 mg (not grams) of sodium per 100 mL. The link you cite is correct in that, rounded to the nearest gram, there are zero grams. This article used to read 37.5 grams of sodium per 12 oz. Whoever wrote that meant 37.5 mg, which may be the correct amount, but I have a can of Vanilla Coke and it says there are 35 mg. The number on the can may be rounded off, but in any case I listed 35 mg of sodium in this article. Philbert2.71828 05:19, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vanilla Coke discontinued? Phased out by 2005?

I live in Ontario, Canada and I just bought a pack of vanilla coke two days ago at Price Chopper... (8 April 2006)

I'm rather jealous of you. :) Vanilla Coke definitly vanished by 2005 here in Ireland. Maeve 22:50, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
I live in the USA. It's going here, but I can still think of two local places I can get it... for now. -Litefantastic 23:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
They've definitely stopped making it so you won't be able to get it after the expiration dates...I know it completely disappeared from vending machines and stores in Tampa Bay by the final week in January, '06. Mike H. That's hot 05:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm from Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), and yeah its still being sold here. I don't think it was discontinued in the Canadian market! Insaneassassin247

I was in ASDA in Wembley today (in the UK) and there were still plenty of Diet Vanilla Cokes, though no Vanilla Cokes. And this is June, easily mid-2006 rather than early. BillyH 19:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

I had a digital photo of a 2 liter bottle of vanilla coke Coke_Vanilla_2L.jpg . It was deleted at commons because of concerns over the coke logo. If we want it for the article I can upload it to en.wikipedia under fair-use. RJFJR 14:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
