Vallila
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vallila (Swedish: Vallgård) is a district in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Vallila is a central-northern district, bordered by Pasila to the west and Kallio to the south. Like Kallio, Vallila is mostly residential and has a reputation of a working-class district. Vallila is famous for its many old wooden houses, which are spread over many blocks.
Perhaps the most famous part of Vallila is its small market square, where the Finnish salvation army often holds markets. This market square was featured in Aki Kaurismäki's film The Man Without a Past.
Ville Valo, lead singer for the Finnish band HIM, was born in Vallila.
