Valerie "Val" Toriello was a fictional character in the television situation comedy, The Nanny. She was played by actress Rachel Chagall.
[edit] Fran's best friend
Val is the best friend of Fran Fine ever since High School, in Flushing, Queens, New York. When the show began, Val was also working at the same bridal shop as Fran was, and was there when Fran was both fired from her job and dumped by her ex-boyfriend, Danny Imperiali, in favor of Fran's arch-rival, Heather Biblow.
Sometimes Val comes across as not very bright, some would say outright dimwitted, and it alternately annoys and worries, Fran. Val, like Fran's mother and Grandmother, are shocked, and ultimately pleased that she lands a job as a nanny so soon after she was fired from the Bridal Shop.
Unlike Fran, who has her eye set on her boss, Maxwell Sheffield, she often dates, and has some success. At one point in time, she, Fran and Fran's sometime nemesis, C.C. Babcock bonded and swore off men for a while.
Apparently the Toriello and Fine families had been friends for some time, and Val and Fran had been close for many years. In fact, Val was one of the bridesmaids at Fran's marriage to Maxwell. Despite Fran's marriage, she and Val remain friends for the rest of their lives, and even beyond, after Fran, Maxwell and the family move to California.
