Val-de-Travers (district)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Val-de-Travers is a district in the canton of Neuchâtel, in Switzerland. It is famous for its clock industry. It is also famous for being the historical birthplace of absinthe which is now once again being distilled in the region. La Clandestine Absinthe was one of the first new local brands to emerge officially in 2005 and claims that the micro-climate is a key factor in the quality of its ingredients.
Due to this microclimate, the Val-de-Travers holds the coldest inhabited point of Switzerland, La Brévine, nicknamed the "Swiss Siberia"; temperatures can go as low as -37°C, as recorded in 2004/2005.
