Vaduthala - (Kodungallur & Nelluvai)

One of the Famous Nair Tharavadues of Kodungallur. Its believed that the family origin was near to the banks of Nila (Bharatha Puzha). Before 500 to 600 years back due to unknown reasons the families two divisions (Thavazies) were shifted to Kodungallur and Nelluvai (near to Vadakkancheri, Thrissur). The family shifted to Kodungallur was under the Karavanar known as Vaduthala Krishnaamman. He has thorough knowledge in Astrology, Kalari, Vydyam (Ayourvedic treatment) and more than that he was a strong believer of Bhadrakali. Like all other Nair Families Karavanar was the head of the Tharavadu. In 1860 - 1920's the Karavanar called Vaduthala Kunjunni Aashan started a Nilathezuth School (Primary School).

In 1880's joined family system partially removed from Kodungallur Thavazi. In 1976 Joint family system completely removed and everyone started to live separately. But the family is following Marumakkthayam

[edit] Dharmadaiva Temple (Kuladevatha Temple)

For both Thavazies (divisions) have their own temple in respective places (Kodungallur and Nelluvai). In Kodungallur Thavazi until 2003 the Prathishta (idol) of the temple was like the Idol seen in Kalaris. Now the temple renewed and Prathishta changed to Ashtabandha Type. There also have two Kavus (Sarpakavus) associated to the temple. At Nelluvai, until 2003 there was only a Kavu. (Sarpakavu). Now they are also making new temple according to Devaprashnam.
