Vaaranam Aayiram (English: A Thousand Elephants) is a forthcoming Tamil film directed by Gautham Menon and produced by Oscar Ravichandran. It stars Surya in pivotal roles. The film's score and soundtrack will be composed by Harris Jayaraj with lyrics penned by Thamarai. Vaaranam Aayiram is a Supernatural Thriller taking place in India. Shooting for the film will start in November 2006. The film is slated for release in August 2007.

The Film has generated a good amount of Pre-release Hype since Gautham Menon and Surya are once again getting together after the SUPERHIT of Kaaka Kaaka. Gautham Menon has also created a hype by himself since all his previous movies have been different, slick, interesting and last but not least Huge Successes. As the movie is also said to be Supernatural Thriller, the movie has sparked curiosity in many since Supernatural Thrillers aren't that common in the Tamil film Industry.

Deepika Padukone was supposed to do the role of the heroine in the film but backed out because the film wasn't rolling as scheduled and its dates were clashing with Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om. ^[2]
Earlier, Asin was considered for the role of the leading lady of the film but rejected the film due to reasons not known. Recent reports state that she could be doing this film. ^[3]
