V. S. Valiathan

V. S. Valiathan (1919-2006) was the recipient of prestigious Raja Ravi Varma Puraskaram of 2006 instituted by the Kerala State Government. He is wellknown for his paintings. He was considered to be the last link of Raja Ravi Varma tradition. He was the recipient of Chitrakala Parishath fellowship in 1996 and the Kerala Lalithakala Academy Award in 2002.

He was born to Revathinal Ravi Varma Raja of erstwhile Pandalam Kongdom and Thottathil Madhavi Amma. He authored a Kathakali Text 'Natyodbhavam.' He held solo exhibitions of his paintings. His five famous paintings titled Kulakkadavu (Bathing Ghat), Themmadykkattu (Ruffian wind), Vreela vivasa (Bashful damesel), Macbeth and Prakrithi Drusyam (Landscape) were at Sree Chitra Art Gallery Vallyathan followed a Classical but realistic style in painting. He drew inspiration from his surroundings, Indian epics and World classics.
