Vöhringen is a town in the district of Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, Germany. The town lies around 18 km south from Ulm at the right banks of the Iller.

Vöhringen maybe developed in the 5th or 6th century, where the Alamanni settled the swabian river valleys. "Veringen", as it was named in the 12th century, changed in the 15th century several times its possessors and became bavarian in 1756 through cure prince Max Joseph of Bavaria, earlier as its neighbour municipalities.

The crucial turn set in 1864 in the sign of the industrialization, as the factory owner Philipp Jakob Wieland bought the locally mill with factory area and the pertinent water power. Still today the Wieland-Werke as a world-known company shape the skyline of Vöhringen.

On June 25 1977 Vöhringen with its to this time already included municipalities Illerberg, Thal and Illerzell became a town.

Illerzell
The former independently municipality Illerzell with about 1300 inhabitants lies around 3 km northwest of Vöhringen in the Iller valley even. The including succeeded at July 1st 1972.

Illerberg und Thal
Illerberg with about 1700 and Thal with around 600 inhabitants lie 2 km at the east of Vöhringen and are in their village cores shaped from the agriculture. They have grown together to one settlement unit within decades. Illerberg/Thal own a direct highway connection to the A7 Würzburg-Kempten. The church St. Martin in Illerberg is one of the most beautiful barocque churches in the area.

The 1993 opened culture centre Wolfgang-Eychmüller-Haus, named after the honouring citizen of Vöhringen and CEO of the Wieland-Werke AG,

Das 1993 eröffnete Kulturzentrum Wolfgang-Eychmüller-Haus, benannt nach dem Ehrenbürger der Stadt Vöhringen und Vorstandsvorsitzenden der Wieland-Werke AG, forms the social and cultural center in the city and in the entire surrounding countryside. The rooms are used actively and variously by associations, syndicates and art- and culture-creatives of all sorts.
