[edit] History

The regiment has its origins in fänikor raised in the 1500s, these units formed Närke-Värmlands regemente which was split in 1812 into Värmlands regemente and Närkes regemente. The regiment was given the designation I 22 (22nd Infantry Regiment) after a general order in 1816. It was given its new designation I 2 in 1939. Värmlands regemente was garrisoned in Karlstad and later Kristinehamn before being disbanded in 2000.
