Uzhavoor

Uzhavoor is a small village in Kottayam, Kerala.

The tenth President of India, K. R. Narayanan, was born and grew up in this village.

Most of its residents are either farmers or engaged in small-scale business. The majority of the population belongs to Knanaya Catholic community. A good number of youngsters work abroad; many of them are either nurses or work in some medical-related field. There are two movie theaters there. The people there are friendly and hospitable.

The scenic beauty of the place is quite noteworthy. There is a place called aanakkallumala [Mountain shaped like an elephant] which is an ideal picnic place. If you get to the top of this rock, the view you see will be fabulous.

St. Stephen Church in Uzhavoor is famous for its perunnal On December 26th. During this day church is colorfully decorated with illuminations. This is the biggest event in the village and lot of people take part in this event.
