Uyo is a city in south-eastern Nigeria; it is the capital of Akwa Ibom State, a major oil producing area of Nigeria. Site of the University of Uyo (1991). Population: 304,100 (2006 estimate). Latitude 5.01N. Longitude 7.85E. It is an area occupied by the Ibibio speaking tribe of Nigeria. There is a tradditional head or a Paramount ruler of this city in the person of His Royal Majesty Cyril Nyong. The city has witnessed some remarkable developments in terms of infrastructures and the like. The city has a brewery-Champion Breweries, and some other major industrial concerns including the development of small scale industries.
