Utah Symphony Orchestra

The Utah Symphony Orchestra is a symphony orchestra located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was founded in 1940 as the Utah State Symphony Orchestra. Its most prominent conductor was Maurice Abravanel, who built it into a well-respected ensemble and recorded and toured extensively with the orchestra. Its current music director and principal conductor is Keith Lockhart. In 2002, the institution merged with the Utah Opera to form the Utah Symphony and Opera.
