UT1 (Ukraine)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UT1, currently marketed as "First National" (Ukrainian: Перший Національний) is the main state-run television channel in Ukraine, operated by the National Television Company of Ukraine. It is broadcast through all the country's territory. UT-1 (short for Ukrayinske Telebachennia - 1) is a traditional professional abbreviation.
During the Orange Revolution, news staff on UT1 stated on-air their refusal to broadcast pro-Yanukovych material. This followed Deaf translator Natalya Dmytruk's on-air denouncement (in sign-language) of the biased information broadcast to viewers.
National Television Company of Ukraine also runs a world-wide satellite channel, marketed as UTR (short for Ukrayinske Telebachennia i Radio) and airing some programmes of the UT1.
