USS Valley Forge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Two ships of the United States Navy have been named USS Valley Forge, in memory of the hardships of the winter at Valley Forge during the American Revolutionary War.
- The first Valley Forge (CV-45) was an aircraft carrier commissioned in 1946, active in the Korean War, converted to an amphibious assault ship LPH-8, and serving in the Vietnam War until decommissioning in 1970. Prior to decommissioning, the carrier was used as a film set for a spaceship (also named Valley Forge) in the 1971 film Silent Running
- The second Valley Forge (CG-50) was a guided missile cruiser commissioned in 1986 and decommissioned on 31 August 2004 at San Diego Naval Station.
A fictional Excelsior class starship called the USS Valley Forge (NCC-43305), was seen in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Tears of the Prophets".
