U.S Coast Guard Cutter FINCH (WDE 428) enroute to the western Pacific for ocean patrol. Cutters serving on ocean stations Sugar and Victor near Korean waters performed vital meteorological duty, providing United Nations' ground, naval, and air forces with information on weather patterns that affected their military actions. Twenty-two cutters served on these ocean stations during the war. In addition to monitoring the weather, they served as communication support platforms and as plane guards, ready to assist aircrews who were forced down at sea.
