Urswick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The villages of Great Urswick and Little Urswick, together called Urswick, are located in the Furness peninsula, part of the administrative county of Cumbria in the United Kingdom. They are situated to the south-west of the town of Ulverston.
Urswick is one of the oldest settlements on the peninsula. Its parish church is said to date to at least Roman times, with the possibility that it is the location of an old Celtic monastery. It has recently been claimed that the Irish patron saint, St Patrick, was born in the village .
Nowadays, Urswick has largely become a commuter village for the towns of Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness. However, agriculture also remains important, with the villages surrounded by farms.
