Urbana, Maryland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Urbana is an unincorporated community located in southern Frederick County, Maryland. It lies at the I-270/MD 80 interchange, about 7.5 miles from Frederick.
[edit] Growth
The original Urbana community has been somewhat overshadowed by new developments, the Villages of Urbana and the Urbana Highlands. These developments (begun in 1999) have swelled Urbana's population and put strain on the community, especially the school system.
A solution to this overcrowding issue was attempted by opening new schools, including Centerville Elementary. Unfortunately, districting issues may mitigate the positive effects of the expanded school system.[citation needed]
