The Urahara Shōten (浦原 商店, lit. Urahara Shop) is a fictional shop in the manga and anime series Bleach in Karakura Town, which is owned by Kisuke Urahara.
The shop sells candy and shinigami wares, also serving as a base to the protagonists of the series.

[edit] Shop staff
Four people inhabit the Urahara shop and work there. They are as follows:
[edit] Kisuke Urahara
Urahara is the owner/mananger (tenchō) of the shop. He gets many of the shop's wares personally and usually interacts with customers. He also trains Ichigo Kurosaki in the shop and takes in the wounded for treatment.
[edit] Tessai Tsukabishi
Tessai Tsukabishi (握菱 テッサイ Tsukabishi Tessai?) is a large muscular man, who always wears his apron. It is unclear what work he does for the shop, but he is Urahara's personal assistant in both business-related and other matters, leading the viewer/reader to believe that he was once Urahara's lieutenant in the Gotei 13. To further support this theory, Tessai has been shown to use a level 99 demon arts binding spell, possibly the most difficult of them. He is also fiercely proud of the shop; this is shown when Inoue praises the shop basement, finding it really cool, Tessai bursts into tears, thanking her. And (in the anime,) when Soifon refers to the shop as "pokey" his instant reaction is irritation, which has to be subdued by Urahara. He is also among the few who find Orihime's food tasty.
[edit] Jinta Hanakari
Jinta Hanakari (花刈 ジン太 Hanakari Jinta?) is a small, red-haired boy who is supposed to do manual labour for the shop, such as cleaning, but usually slacks off and forces Ururu Tsumugiya (see below) to do all the work. He desires to be a baseball star as well as Karakura Red(fighting for the position with Karin Kurosaki) in the team of Karakura Superheroes led by Don Kanonji and seems to have a crush on Yuzu Kurosaki calling her "The Goddess." This is shown more when he gives her discounts at the shop and treating a good-luck charm she gave him as an extremely important possesion (it was really Kon's plushie body tied to a string, which caused a fight between the two over it during a soccer game). Jinta, like the other shop members, appears to be old and wise when he isn't fooling around. While he likes to constantly bully Ururu, he has shown to care much for her, and recovered her body after she was wounded by the arrancar Il Forte Grantz.
[edit] Ururu Tsumugiya
Ururu Tsumugiya (紬屋 雨 Tsumugiya Ururu?) is a little girl whose hair style somewhat resembles a cockroach. She does manual labor for the shop, as well as assisting Urahara in training Ichigo. She is Karakura Pink in the Superheroes team and uses a multi-barrelled cannon as her weapon. Ururu has a fighting power comparable to a normal shinigami and appears to be adept at healing. Her combat skills are shown when she gives the arrancar Il Forte Grantz a devastating kick to the head when the latter is dueling with Renji Abarai within close proximity of the Urahara Shōten. In the anime, she also delivers a debilitating kick to Sawatari's doll, Baura, thus saving Rangiku Matsumoto and Yasutora Sado.
[edit] Others
- Yoruichi Shihouin also inhabits the shop for a period, but only as a guest to Urahara. Thus, she does not work there. She usually adopts the form of a cat.
- In the anime, Renji Abarai is known as Mr. Freeloader (isōrō-san) by the shop members during the time he lives as a guest at the shop.
[edit] Wares
The Urahara shop sells wares for shinigami. A number of these have been revealed through purchases made by Rukia Kuchiki.
- Gikongan (also known as soul candy) - used to force a soul out of a gigai or body by replacing it with another (See also: Kisuke Urahara)
- Sōmafixer (内魄固定剤*) - item that helps synchronize the soul with a gigai
- Kikanshinki (記換神機) - item that wipes a person's recent memory and replaces it with randomness
* - Sōmafixer's kanji spelling is not pronounced 'sōmafixer', but like 虚 for hollow, conveys an accurate meaning and is used in the manga.
[edit] Paramilitary base
The shop also serves as a paramilitary base for the protagonists of the series - some of them trained in it, while others were taken in for healing. It has a massive subterranean "study room" which was modelled after a certain location in Soul Society where Urahara and Yoruichi used to train in. Following are such notable occurrences:
- Ichigo Kurosaki was healed and then trained in the Urahara shop following his first defeat at the hands of Byakuya Kuchiki.
- Orihime Inoue and Chad were trained in the shop (and elsewhere) by Yoruichi Shihouin. They were also healed there (twice in Chad's case).
- Renji Abarai came to live in the shop and is currently training with Chad within the study room. He has promised to do this for three months, at which point Urahara will answer any questions he has of him. In the anime, he came at an earlier time, and was invited to live there.
[edit] Trivia
- According to Kubo, Urahara Shōten sells a very rare candy, "Space Candy". He says, "From the name, it sounds like it'll have some strange taste, but inside is only a coca cola tasting candy."
