"Upgrade U" is an R&B song written by Beyoncé Knowles, Mk. Makeba, Sean Garrett, Solange Knowles, Angela Beyince, Jay-Z, Willie Clarke and Clarence Reid. It is the fourth single released from Beyoncé's second album, B'Day. The single features Jay-Z and is their fourth single collaborating together; it samples Betty Wright's "Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do". The original version of the song was to have featured T.I.. The song is about a relationship between a female and a male. Beyonce is singing that she can upgrade her man, introduce him to new things, make his life style better and make his reputation greater.
Unexpectedly, the single entered the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts without being released as a single. It debuted on the Hot 100 on November 9, 2006 at number ninety-two and its current peak position is 64, and it has peaked at number 13 on the R&B chart. As of December 2006, no music video or official single release has been planned. Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" is still rising the charts and her follow up for that single, "Listen", a track from the Dreamgirls film soundtrack, has been planned for months. Despite not being released as a single, the song is already a staple in urban hip hop clubs in the U.S.
