Up Against My Heart was the fifth and final album that Patty Loveless would record for MCA Records. She felt that the company was not promoting her records as aggressively as those of other artists on the huge label, and they were soon to part ways. It is unfortunate too that they did so, because this is truly a fine album, even though there were only two Billboard Country Singles to chart, the #3 "Hurt Me Bad (in a Real Good Way)" and the #13 "Jealous Bone." However, among songs that never made the charts are some of the better songs that Patty has ever recorded: "Nobody Loves You Like I Do," "I Already Miss You (Like You're Already Gone)," "I Came Straight to You," and the quirky Lyle Lovett-written "God Will." Dolly Parton also lends supporting vocals on "Waitin' for the Phone to Ring."
