It's a fairly well-known theory in the Dave Matthews Band community that the "Matthew" she is talking about is Dave. They spent some time together during the recording of "Before these Crowded Streets" (where Alanis guested). I'm not sure if this should be included here since it's only a theory, but it definitely stands to reason, and makes sense within the context of the song. Sigemund 05:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
