[edit] New features
[edit] Pets
In the Sims Unleashed, the Sims can now adopt pets for their families, particularly dogs and cats. Dogs and cats count as members of a family, while other pets become part of the household and are treated as objects. Pets can be adopted from the local adoption center. There, you choose the pet's species, such as Calico, Tabby, or Siamese. You also name your pet. You can't give them personality points yourself, but they do come with personality points. In The Sims: Makin' Magic expansion pack pets can be turned into sims by using a spell
- German Shepherd
- Great Dane
- Australian Shepherd
- Bulldog
- Golden Retriver
- Irish Setter
- Chihuahua
- Poodle
- Boston Terrier
- Scottish Terrier
- Boxer
- Beagle
- Dalmatian
- Siamese Cat
- Calico
- Persia
- Black cat
- Tabby
[edit] Pet Skills
Adopted pets have three different skills, differing from normal Sim members:
- Housebreaking (dogs only);
- Hunting (cats only);
- Obedience; and
- Tricks
If you have a garden, it will most certaintly be invaded by mice, moles, and bunnies. A scarecrow won't help that much. If you train your cat to hunt, it will rid your home of pests. Flies and mice will enter your home. If you buy a litter box for your cat, it will automatically use it, without training/
[edit] Neighbors' Pets
Sometimes, neighbors' pets and strays will wander onto your lawn. (Strays can be adopted.) They will get into fights with your pets (if your pets are extremely loyal, of course, but this is a very rare experience.) and, poop and pee on your lawn. If you don't want to deal with this, put a fire hydrant outside. They're in "Miscellaneous", then points, and cost about $250. Or in "Outside", then "Decorative". Dogs will use the hydrant and cats will use a litter box. (Yes, animals, excluding bunnies, moles, and the raccoon will enter your home.)
[edit] Personality
Dogs and Cats, like all Sims, have personalities. Though the personality types are the same, there are different ways of fullfilling them. Unfortunately, players can't control them, but if they buy objects, the pets will automatically use them. Pet objects include dog houses, bowls, baths, cat trees, and cat scratch posts. You can also buy them things in the "old town" area.... like collars, treats, and you can buy more pets.
[edit] Interactions
The most useful perk of having a Sim pet is in interacting with them. Normal Sims can interact with them in different ways, such as rubbing, playing and clapping. Other social moves include praising and scolding. Pets can also be trained to obey their masters, either by normal Sims or the local Pet trainer, and can even be entered into a pet show at the adoption center.
[edit] Other changes
The neighbourhood in Unleashed is now 40 lots large (from 10 in the original game), and includes several new families. An expanded neighborhood screen, displaying both residential and commercial lots. The game allows stores to be built in the neighbourhood. Sims can now grow their own garden. New career paths, such as Animal Care, Culinary, Circus, Fashion, and Education. New midnight visitors, such as El Bandito, a racoon and Henri LeStanc (a skunk) .
The theme of game, with its new lots and music, is considered Cajun or Zydeco. One could compare it to New Orleans' French Quarter with voodoo shops and jazz musicians appearing on commercial lots.
[edit] Trivia
- Unleashed is the highest-selling expansion pack game for The Sims. Due to the popularity of Unleashed, Maxis released an equivalent expansion pack for The Sims 2, dubbed as Pets, which was released October 17, 2006.
- In Hebrew, the name of the game is "סימס חיות וחוויות" which means "The Sims Animals and Experiences".
