The Universidad del Norte (University of the North) is the main private academic center for higher education in northern Colombia. It was founded in 1966 by a group of businessman led by Mr. Karl C Parrish in the city of Barranquilla. It started its academic operation on July 11, 1966, with 58 students and 10 teachers on core courses of Business Administration and Engineering.

Today, it is a vibrant educational center offering a wide range of national and international accredited career paths, including Industrial, Mechanical, Computer, Civil and Electrical Engineering, as well as Medicine, Business Administration, Law school, Psychology, International relations and several other faculties.

It is considered be for the Education Ministery as one best universities in Colombia, and also one of the most expensive.

It has become one of the most important cultural and technological centers on the Atlantic coast of Colombia.
