University of the Azores

Universidade dos Açores (literally the University of the Azores) is public university and is the westernmost university in Portugal and is the Azores' only university. The university was founded in 1976 The location of the university is in Ponta Delgada. The Azorean academy is made up of two campuses, the departmento de Ciências Agrárias Department of Agricultural Sciences in Angra do Heroísmo in the island of Terceira and the departamento de Oceanografia e Pescas Department of Oceanography and Icthyology in the island of Faial. The department includes scientists which conserves the marine life in the Azorean Archipelago. The head of the university is Prof. Doutor Avelino de Freitas de Meneses, a specialist in the insular history of the Atlantic. The university is located on Rua da Mae de Deus in Ponta Delgada. Other facilities includes the Departamento de Biologia, the Department of Biology
The university buildings are in three parishes including one in Ponta Delgada and one in São Pedro northeast of Ponta Delgada. The university has a university team.
