University of Wisconsin-River Falls is a four year university and a member of the University of Wisconsin System located in River Falls, Wisconsin on the famed trout fishing Kinnickinnic River. Founded in 1874, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls serves approximately 6000 students. River Falls consists of a 226-acre main campus that consists of 26 buildings, ten of which are residence halls. River Falls also has two laboratory farms of 150 and 290 acres.

Nicknamed the Falcons, the University has eighteen varsity sports for men and women competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and play in the NCAA Division III. The Kansas City Chiefs use many of the universities athletic facilities during while they are in River Falls, Wisconsin for their summer training camp.

It was founded as "The River Falls Normal School" in 1874, to train teachers. Today, it is home to over 600 students in various majors including Business, Education, Food Science, Music and more. The University has been accredited by Council on Social Work Education, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, The American Association of Agricultural Engineers and many more.

In the past few years, UWRF has updated many of its aging buildings. Included in this renovation is several residence halls. The University is also in its final stages of constructing a new student union to replace the inadequate Hagestead Student Center. The new Student Center will be set to open in January 2007. In 2005, the University opened a suite-style residence hall named George R. Field's South Fork Suites serving 240 students.

  • 1874 The University of Wisconsin-River Falls was founded in 1874 as the fourth State Normal School in Wisconsin and the first in the northwestern part of the state.
  • 1951 The addition of liberal arts courses, the school was designated Wisconsin State College at River Falls.
  • 1964 Graduate courses were added and the name became Wisconsin State University-River Falls
