University of Wisconsin-Marathon County

The University of Wisconsin–Marathon County (UWMC), part of the University of Wisconsin Colleges, is a two-year campus of the University of Wisconsin System located near downtown Wausau, Wisconsin, adjacent to 78-acre Marathon Park. The current Dean of the campus is James Veninga, who is retiring from his position after the 2006-2007 school year to spend more time teaching. UWMC is currently undergoing a search for a replacement Dean. The campus consists of five buildings; the main building, the fieldhouse, the ceramics/pottery building, the art building, and the dormitory. UW Marathon County has an average enrollment of 1,300 students, and an average class size of 23 students. At UWMC, 53.3% of students are male, 46.7% of students are female, and 9.7% are minority students. UWMC is the home of the Wisconsin Public Radio Wausau Regional Studio.

The University offers a variety of courses, leading to either an associate’s degree or the Guaranteed Transfer Program, under which students are guaranteed admission to a four-year University of Wisconsin System college of their choice if they meet certain academic requirements. UW Marathon County also has a collaboration program with UW Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh which allows students to be dually enrolled in both colleges, and to take select courses from those colleges on the UW Marathon County campus, to earn a bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration, General Studies, Web and Digital Media Development, and Nursing.

The University of Wisconsin Marathon County sponsors teams in golf, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. UWMC has a pool, a weight room, an open gym, and a racquetball court in the Field House which is available throughout the day for students use. The school mascot is the Huskie.

UWMC also sponsors a school newspaper called "The Forum". The newspaper has monthly issues, and is student run.

UWMC has a large student governing organization called the "Student Association" The Student Association has six main officers, and 10 senators who represent student interests. The campus is a member of United Council, a lobbying organization that represents 23 of the 26 UW campus's at the state level, as well as a member of Student Governing Council, an organization that represents the 13 two-year campus's in the UW System.
