University of Queensland Law Revue
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The University of Queensland Law Revue (or "UQ Law Revue") is a critically acclaimed comedy revue written, produced and performed annually by students from the T.C. Beirne School of Law, situated in the St. Lucia of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.
The revue consists of about three hours of sketches, songs, dances and pre-filmed material. The material in the show satirizes life at university, law school and in the legal profession in general but has a significantly large proportion of non-legal related material (commenting on social and current affairs).
The show is produced by the UQLS. It takes place around the end of August/beginning of September each year, playing to approximately 1200 people each year.
Up until 2004, the revue was held in the Cement Box Theatre. As of 2005, the revue has moved into the much larger Schonell Theatre to accommodate higher demand.
Several of the writers and performers have gone on to write and perform comedy for television sketch shows.
Current member of the High Court of Australia his Honour Justice Michael Kirby has made several appearances in pre-filmed segments of the show. In 2004, his Honour introduced the show with a direct to camera address. In 2006, he was overruled by the "directors" of the revue on whether he should appear or not in that year's show - a play on his high rate of dissenting judgments.
