The University of Karachi (Urdu: جامعہ كراچى ), located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is the largest public university in Pakistan and ranked number one in the country according to HEC (Higher Education Commission). The university also holds the honor of producing largest amount of research output in terms of patent, international peer reviewed journals and regular academic conference.

It was chartered by the Majlis-e-Shoora in September 1950 via an Act of Parliament. The university was established in June 1951, the fourth oldest university in Pakistan and the first in Karachi.
The university consists of 56 departments organized into eight faculties: Arts & Commerce, Science, Pharmacy, Education, Medicine, Law, and Islamic Studies. In addition, there are 17 research centers and 130 affiliated colleges.ku is consist of nearly 1300 to 1700 acre yards land area. ku has morning and evening programes .in morning there are near 20000 students are studying and near 225000 students are enrolled as a private candidates.ku has produced a major personalities of pakistan. many vice chancelor of ku had a fame of intelectual or scholary back ground .such as dr,ishtiaq hussain qureshi,dr mahmood hussain brother of dr zakir hussain who was indian president,dr manzoor ahmed ,dr jameel jalbi,dr abdul wahab.ku has a record for struggle againist military dictator ship.ku students fought for the democracy in ayub khan period many students from ku send behind the bar of prison.during 1967 to 68 .ku student are considered more aware of global or local affairs than others in pakistan. pakistan 3rd biggest party mqm was established in ku during 1978. ku is basically not a name of roof or walls in this aspect many university of pakistan are more glorious or magnificient then ku but ku is name of thinking or conception.that flows in the vein of students.many people such as mohammad ali junaid and other student who passouted in 2005 and had a fame in ku during his studeies as a scholar or philosopher said that the ugly face of ku is just its politics that has spoil whole university.but many answered him that its a part of democratic society but he refuted that its not neccessary that every clause may be applied every where.the big no of students are at his back in his reason to ban politics in ku.

Karachi University was a pioneer of Business Education in the mid fifties in South Asia, and has established Karachi University Business School on the pattern of well-recognized Business Schools in the Universities of Western World. It offers programs of BBA (Honors), MBA (Morning & Evening) and MBA after Honors.
It occupies space on the first floor of Commerce Building.
