The University of Delaware Police (UDPD) are responsible for law enforcement on UD's three campuses. Although the majority of their work is directed at areas on university property, UDPD officers are certified by the state of Delaware, allowing them to make arrests for crimes witnessed off-campus. They regularly assist the Newark Police Department (NPD), which serves the city where the university's main campus is located.

The police represent one branch of the University of Delaware Department of Public Safety, whose employees also include security, and parking enforcement officers, as well as cashiers, EMTs, and student police aides.

As of January 2006, the head of both UDPD and Public Safety is Chief James J. Flatley.
