The University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center is a research university in Denver, Colorado. Commonly referred to as CU-Denver, it is part of the University of Colorado system. CU-Denver was created in July 2004 when the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center merged into one single research university (UCDHSC). The university operates three campus locations. With locations in downtown Denver at Auraria Campus, at Ninth and Colorado in Denver and at Fitzsimons in Aurora, Colorado. The university offers more than 100 degrees including undergraduate, graduate, professional and certificates programs. UCDHSC includes more than 27,000 students in its 3 campuses and online. There are more than 100 degree programs in 12 schools and colleges awarding more than 3,400 degrees every year. There are nearly 12,000 students currently enrolled at UCDHSC - Downtown Denver Campus.

Founded in 1912 as the University of Colorado's Department of Correspondence and Extension, the downtown campus was established to meet the needs of the city's rapidly expanding population. By 1969, the campus had been renamed the University of Colorado-Denver Center and was offering 34 programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 1974 the University of Colorado at Denver was formed, eventually sharing space on the Auraria Campus. In July 2004 the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center consolidated to become one single research university (UCDHSC).

UCDHSC is located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver just steps from the Denver Center for Performing Arts and the LoDo District. With such an ideal location in one of America's most vibrant urban centers, students have access to an endless array of academic, professional, recreational, and cultural outlets. At the same time, the wondrous natural surroundings provided by the Rocky Mountains offer some of the most active and exciting opportunities in the world for outdoor enthusiasts.
CU-Denver is located in the heart of downtown Denver - at the hub of the city's business, recreational, and commercial districts. CU-Denver is part of the Auraria Campus and has individual buildings located near LoDo and at other sites within the city. It is surrounded by an abundance of recreational, cultural, academic, and professional outlets
The location of CU-Denver provides a unique blend of metropolitan buzz, set against the peaceful and majestic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. The campus is within walking distance of the Pepsi Center, Invesco Field, Coors Field, parks, museums, theatres and performing arts centers, and an eclectic assortment of restaurants, coffeehouses, and shops. At the same time, the campus is less than an hour away from some of the best skiing, snowboarding, camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, and rock-climbing in the world.

The faculty at UCDHSC comprises renowned educators and experts in their fields. Four out of five faculty members hold the highest degree within their fields, earned from some of the finest institutions of higher education in the world. They bring with them recognized scholarly achievements, a deep appreciation for technology in the classroom, an emphasis on practical, hands-on learning, and a very real passion for teaching.
