University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia

University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia (Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan & Teknologi Malaysia or KUKTEM) is one of the 18 Malaysian government universities. It was established as a public technical university by the Malaysian government on 16 February 2002.

Incorporated under the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 by the Royal Decree of His Majesty the Yang DiPertuan Agong, KUKTEM was set up as a competency-based technical university, specializing in engineering and technology. The University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia currently operates on a temporary campus in Gambang, Pahang. The temporary campus was formerly an industrial complex owned by MEC. The university's permanent campus is located in Pekan, which is currently still under construction.

The University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia was the first university in Pacific Asia to provide wireless internet access to students on their campus. Currently, the university provides internet access in almost all area of it's campus, using both wireless and cable(LAN) connection method for all students and staffs.

On 8 October, 2006, the Malaysian government has agreed to rename KUKTEM to Universiti Malaysia Pahang. The change of name is because the words 'university college' (Kolej Universiti) has given bad impressions to people especially employers and also to satisfy Pahang residents' requests.

The University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia (KUKTEM) offers many facilities for all students and staffs. Facilities provided includes:

Dormitory
- Dormitory in KUKTEM is known as Kolej Kediaman in Malay, or Residence College in literally-translated English. Currently, dormitory in KUKTEM is divided into 2:
  - Student Residence Complex 1 - Original dormitory for students. Consisting of 15 blocks, 8 for male students and 7 for female students. Each block consists of 4 floors, each with 12 rooms, 2 study rooms and washrooms. 4 students are assigned to each room.
  - Student Residence Complex 2 - New dormitory complex consisting of terrace houses. This dormitory complex is given the name Kompleks Kediaman Gambang Perdana. Restricted for male students only. Most of the male students of 2nd year and above are assigned here.
- Facilities such as pay-to-use washing machine, water-cooler and Reverse-Osmosis water vending machine are also provided by KUKTEM.
- Each dormitory complex has their own cafeteria to provide food for students and staffs at reasonable prices.
Internet Access
- KUKTEM was the first university in Asia Pacific to provide wireless internet access for students. Almost all area in the Gambang campus has Wi-Fi coverage, for both students and staffs. In addition, there are also LAN ports for students to connect to internet via LAN cable at strategic locations such as dormitory study rooms and library.
- Malaysia's main ISP (Internet Service Provider), TMNET, also provides wireless internet access service (Requires monthly fee) for individuals who prefer more efficient internet connection in the campus. Known as TMNET Hotspot, it provides a higher speed wireless internet access at few limited locations in the campus for a small amount of fee.
Library
- Known as the Knowledge Management Centre (KMC) in KUKTEM, it provides valuable sources of information and reference for all students and staffs of KUKTEM. Contains a computer lab with internet access, books, e-books, and other media such as CD, audio tapes etc.
