The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), established in 1969 is a campus of the Université du Québec, located in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The university has 10 000 students in 8 different campus, including the main one in Trois-Rivieres. About 400 of them comes overseas from 37 countries. It had given a total of 54 000 diplomas since its beginning. The Trois-Rivieres campus also holds a large library with about 400 000 documents.[1]

The UQTR was created in 1969 with the merger of the "Centre d'Études universitaires de Trois-Rivières" and L'école normale d'État Maurice Duplessis". The first major campus, Ringuet, was open in 1973 and located near the vicinity of Des Forges and Des Récollets Boulevards near downtown Trois-Rivières. Over the following years, the UQTR would expanded outside of the city in several towns in the Centre-du-Québec, Montérégie, Lanaudière, Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions
[edit] Les Patriotes de l'UQTR
The university is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the UQTR Patriotes which has teams in swimming, golf, hockey, soccer and volleyball.
[edit] Chiropractic program
It is home to the first public and the first university-based chiropractic school in North America. In that program there is strict limit of admissions per year which is 45. Students are also chosen based on performances at college.
[edit] 2005 Student Strike
During the 2005 student strike, students have narrowly voted in early March for a three-day strike which included the day that occurred the March 16 protest in Montreal in which several hundreds of UQTR students participated. Two days later, they narrowly voted for a return to class. However, due to complaints may by some student groups, the UQTR returned to strike about a week later. During the first general strike, some teachers were still given courses and their were groups nicknamed "commandos" that were patrolling the Trois-Rivieres in order to located for courses that were still done. They were ordering the immediate end of those. [2] [3]
