Universidad Nacional de Córdoba

The Universidad Nacional de Córdoba is the second oldest university in South America, being founded in 1610 (Collegium Maximum) before Universitas Cortuba Tucumanæ1613. It is the oldest in Argentina, and is located in Córdoba, the capital of the central Córdoba Province. Its long history provide for it being an important national focus of influence, not only cultural and scientific, but also social and political.

In 1955, the Argentina National Observatory (Observatorio Nacional Argentino) became the National Observatory of Córdoba, an institution now belonging to this university. This observatory was built during the 1870s and has a long history of contribution to the field of astronomy, including the assembly of the Cordoba Durchmusterung star catalog in 1930.
