Founded July 5 of 1962 like Foundation of right deprived with economy lessons. Later recognized by Decree number 37 of 1964 and made official like university of the Norte de Santander (North of Santander) department by means of decree 323 of May 13 of 1970 sent by the government.
The Francisco de Paula Santander University, is a independent university, property of the Education Ministry and organized like public establishment of academic character of the departmental order.
Its main campus is located in Cúcuta, it has a branch in the city of Ocaña and in the municipality of Chinacota in addition it has regional centers of Open Education and remote in some municipalities of the departments of Norte de Santander, Cundinamarca, Santander, Cesar, Sucre, Bolívar, Magdalena, Arauca, San Andrés y Providencia, being able to extend its operational range according to it establishes the General Statute of the Institution.
