United States presidential election, 2000, in Florida

Florida's presidential election of 2000 was highly controversial (see the Florida election results section of the 2000 U.S. presidential election article for details). In the certified results, George W. Bush defeated Al Gore by 537 votes, or 0.01%, out of 6 million cast. This was not only the closest result on record for any U.S. state in any Presidential election seen before or since, but the Florida vote proved to be the decisive factor in the nationwide election.
