The U.S. Army Chemical School, located at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri serves numerous purposes. The school is the Advanced Individual Training site for enlisted personnel classified as 74D, as well as providing basic and continuing training for officers serving in the Chemical Corps. In addition the school offers to NCOs several courses relating to CBRN warfare.

- To protect the force and allow the Army to fight and win against an NBC threat. Develop doctrine, equipment and training for NBC defense which serve as a deterrent to ANY adversary possessing weapons of mass destruction. Provide the Army with the combat multipliers of smoke, obscurant, and flame capabilities.[1]

The U.S. Army Chemical School is currently commanded by Brigadier General Stan Lillie. CSM Patrick Alston is the regimental Command Sergeant Major.

[edit] BIDS - Biological Integrated Detection System
[edit] RECON - CBRN Reconnaissance
[edit] RC-COAC - Chemical Officer Advanced-RC
Completion of the course results in a working knowledge of chemical, radiological, smoke, reconnaissance and decontamination operations. Phase 2 consists of technical which include radiological operations, chemical and biological defense, threat and smoke/obscurant operations. Focus of this training is at brigade and higher levels. Additional training in company skills, knowledge and abilities is also presented.
[edit] RAD - Radiological Safety
This 120 hour course provides an in depth knowledge of the calculations involving the shielding of beta and gamma radiation, decay and the halflife concept. It also provides the student with the opportunity to learn decontamination procedures using open source radioactive nuclides deposited on a variety of materials in a laboratory environment under strict supervision of the instructors. The student also obtains a working knowledge of fundamental radiological safety principles for ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, to include storage, handling, transportation, disposal, reporting, control, and general precautions for depleted Uranium, Tritium, X-rays, microwaves, and lasers. Students gain hands-on experience with scalar counters and a variety of other instruments. This course will qualify an individual as an Installation Radiation Protection Officer.
[edit] CMC3 - Chemical Captains Career
Course provides knowledge of radiation fundamentals, CBRN reconnaissance and decontamination operations, smoke operations, CBRN staff functions, staff operations, administrative procedures, organizational and personnel management, logistics operations, individual/unit training, and individual and unit tactical operations. Also provides professional development for performance of duties as platoon leader and member of a battalion staff, with emphasis on the smoke platoon leader, the CBRN reconnaissance and decontamination platoon leader, and the battalion chemical officer.

To provide learning activities that will allow Joint Senior Leaders of all services to further develop and reinforce skills and knowledge in the area of Chemical, Biological Warfare Defense, Smoke, Obscurants, and Flame Field Expedients. Emphasis is placed on Joint CB Defense Fundamentals and doctrine.
[edit] NCBDC - NBC Defense Course
To qualify officers and NCOs with the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the additional duty of NBC Officer/NCO at company and detachment level, by utilizing the highest level of training that is achievable to both Active and Reserve Component soldiers.
