United Nations Operation in Mozambique

United Nations Operations in Mozambique (ONUMOZ). ONUMOZ was established (Security Council Resolution 782, 13 October 1992) to help implement the General Peace Agreement, signed between the President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, and the President of the Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (Renamo), Afonso Dhlakama. The mandate included facilitating the implementation of the Agreement; monitoring the ceasefire; monitoring the withdrawal of foreign forces and providing security in the transport corridors; providing technical assistance and monitoring the entire electoral process. ONUMOZ operated from December of 1992 to December of 1994.
