United Nations LRT Station, also known as UN Avenue LRT Station, is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, United Nations station is above-ground. The station serves Ermita in Manila and is located at the corner of Taft and United Nations Avenues. The station is named after United Nations Avenue, which in turn is named after the United Nations.
United Nations station serves as the eleventh station for LRT-1 trains headed for Baclaran and as the eighth station for trains headed to Monumento. It is the closest station to one of Manila's major landmarks, Rizal Park, named after the Philippine national hero, José Rizal.
Because of its position near Rizal Park, the station is near many government offices, such as the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the offices of the Department of Tourism, the Department of Justice and the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Insurance Commission. It is also home to major educational institutions such as Adamson University and the Manila Science High School. United Nations station is also connected to a commercial center named Times Square, which is similar to a small shopping mall. The station is also near the YWCA of Manila at Gen. Luna Street, as well as the Philippine office of the WHO and T.M. Kalaw Street.
[edit] Transportation links
United Nations station is well-served by buses and jeepneys that serve the Taft Avenue and nearby routes, taxis and cycle rickshaws that stop at and around the station. Kalesas are also available and stop near the station. They are one of the main forms of transportation in and around Rizal Park.
