Union Station (Springfield)

For the station in Massachusetts, see Springfield, Massachusetts (Amtrak station).

The Springfield Amtrak station, a brick railroad depot, serves Springfield, Illinois, the state capital. It is at mile 185 on Amtrak's Illinois and Missouri Route. As of 2006, it was served by five trains daily each way: the once daily Texas Eagle, the once daily Ann Rutledge and the thrice daily Lincoln Service.

The station was served by the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad until the startup of Amtrak in 1971.

Springfield received $5 million in 2005 from the U.S. federal government to plan for the construction of a possible new intermodal station to serve as a hub for both train and passenger bus service. A preliminary estimate of the cost of the entire project was $50.0 million. [1]
