[edit] Noteworthy alumnus

A noteworthy alumnus of Union is NCAA basketball player Amy Lindsay-Fuller. She played varsity basketball for Union from 1995-1998.

After high school, during her Freshman and Sophomore years, she played basketball for Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. Then, her Junior, and Senior years, she transferred to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She had begun coaching the Union girls' varsity basketball team when she was killed in a car accident on November 28, 2004. She was 25 years old. Her one-year-old son was in the back seat, suffering a broken leg.

[edit] History

Union High School (Modoc) was formed in 1952 after the closing of three small high schools: Modoc High School, Losantville High School, and Huntsville High School. For the first five years, students attended the old Modoc High School. In 1957, the new building was finished, and all students were relocated to the new building. In 1968 an addition was completed allowing Blountsville School, which housed grades 1-6, to be closed and consolidated with Union.

[edit] How we got our Name

There are currently several theories to how Union High got its name. One reason is that Union was one of the first high schools to be consolidated from several small schools, they took Union from the word United. One other theory is that we got our name is because there are two different counties in the district. The most reasonable theory is that we were named after the township in which Union High is located, because our original name was Union Township High School, and our call letters where UTHS. Through the years, the Township part of the name has been left out when people say out name. Most people in the district just call us Union High School, or UHS for short. Soon we became known as Union High School (Modoc) to people out side the area, because there is another Union High School in Dugger, Indiana.

[edit] School District

The school district is located Union Township, Indiana in the southwestern part of Randolph County, and Stoney Creek Township in northeastern Henry County.
