University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is the eighth public university in Malaysia, and the first one initiated by the aspirations of Vision 2020.

The University took in its first students numbering 118 in 1993 with the opening of the Faculty of Social Science and Faculty of Resource Science and Technology. Currently the university has eight faculties with a student body size of up to 7000 students in three major campuses: the East Campus and the West Campus in Kota Samarahan, and the Medical Campus in Kuching (fondly known as the Lot 77 Campus).

The UNIMAS Student Representative Council (Malay: Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar UNIMAS or MPP UNIMAS) is the student representative body for students at the University Malaysia Sarawak, Malaysia. It is the ultimate legislative body among the students. A general election is held every year to elect representatives to the Student Representative Council.

The Yang DiPertua is the President of the Student Representative Council. The current Yang DiPertua is Azli Bin Ramli, a second year undergraduate studying Resource Chemistry in the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology.

The Naib Yang DiPertua is the Vice President of the Student Representative Council. The current Naib Yang DiPertua is Nur Fazlin Shazana Binti Mohd Safiai, a second year undergraduate studying Counselling in the Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development.
