[edit] "A similar design could be used for 52 stars"??

Could someone explain how this would work or look? If my math is right, such a 52-star flag would have "rings" of 1, 9, 17, and 25 stars. (1 + 9 + 17 + 25 == 52.) Would this really look "good"? How would the ring of 9 and the ring of 17 "line up"?

[edit] Impossible to arrange 53 stars symmetrically?

What about the following (8+7+8+7+8+7+8), which is as symmetric as the current flag?

  *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *
    *   *   *   *   *   *   *
  *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *
    *   *   *   *   *   *   *
