Talk:United Left Front (Nepal) (1990)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think this
article contains wrong information about which parties founded the ULF.
According to history books Ive read, the correct list of parties were:
* NKP(Marksbadi Leninbadi) * NKP(Marksbadi) * Nepal Mazdoor Kizan Party * NKP (Chautho Mahadhiveshan) (betyr fjerde landsmøte) * NKP(Mandahar) * NKP(Varma) * NKP(Amatya).
Questions:
- About the NKP (Democratic) listed: As far as Ive understood, this was a change in name of the NKP (Manandhar) before the election in 1991. What are the sources that shows that this name was used by a party during the spring of 1990?
- about the alleged membership of the Nepal Communist League: I have found NO SOURCE that lists this organisation in connection with the ULF at all?

- In regards to NKP (Democratic) as far as know it was not a name change of the NKP (Manadhar) but rather a merger between it, the NKP (Varma) and the NKP (Amatya). I think the problem has arisen due to the close proximity between the formation of the NKP (Democratic) and the United Left Front therefore it unclear whether the parties above joined as individual parties or rather as a united coalition. Perhaps it would be best to list them as joining seperately but then merging in a similar way that the United Left Front 2002 article deals with mergers.
I don't know about the Nepal Communist League.
Just out of interest what books have you been reading on the subject as I might be interested in purchasing some? --Horses In The Sky 22:19, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- ALL the litterature Ive read that comments on this, say that the CPN(D) was a name change taken by the CPN(Manandhar) for the 2001 election.
- There is NO MENTION AT ALL of a merger between this party and the Amatya and Varma AT ANY TIME, and especially not before the election, where all 3 parties stood separately. NOR is there ANY MENTION of the CPN(D) in the ULF or, indeed, before 1991 AT ALL.
- ALL talk about mergers - splits is BETWEEN the allready existing CPN(D), Amatya and Varma AFTER the election in 1991, and inside the CPN(United).
- See finstance "People Politics & Ideology Democracy and social change in Nepal" Martin Hoftun, Wiliam Raeper and John Whelpton.
- These are authorities that STAYED IN NEPAL during the 1990 Jana Andolan and 1991 election and wrote about it. See page 177 and the map of communist parties in Nepal 392, which says explisitely that this was a NAME CHANGE in 1991, thus there NEVER WAS a CPN(D) in the ULF, either.
- Furthermore, the book states that the NKP (Amatya) and NKP (Varma) (aka Burma) existed in november 2000, a time when the ULF was de facto dissolved.
- About the CPN(UNITED) theres a note on page 184, which says about the CPN(D):
- Formerly known as the CPN(Manandhar)), this group joined with the Amatya and Varma groups two months after the election to form the CPN(United).
- About the constituents of the ULF, theres a list of teh 7 founding members at page 116. NKP(ML), NKP(Marksbadi), NMKP, NKP(Fourth Convention, NKP(Manandhar), NKP(Amathya), NKP (Varma).
- NO mention of CPN(D), nor of Nepal Communist League.
- However, the NCL, as referred to by its leader Shambu Ram Srhesta, is mentioned as a member of the left front UNPM (led by B. Bhattarai!) at page 119.
- This seems crystal clear to me (and I can quote several other books to confirm this).
- MY question then isnt: Where does this info about the CPN(D) being a 1991 election name for the CPN(Manandhar) come from, but: Where does the massive wrong info in this english Wikipedia article come from?
